Shades of Strength by paulypants Shades of Strength by paulypants
Shades of Strength is the newest addition to my War Paint series. It measures 24" x 30." The original painting is available for purchase through the Lyman-Eyer Gallery (www.lymaneyerart.com/ItemDispl… but will be held until my exhibition this summer, opening August 22. Limited-edition prints are available in my online store (paulrichmond.bigcartel.com/pro…

The War Paint series is an expressive exploration of strength, masculinity, and courage. I am inspired by the variety of ways in which people summon their inner strength to prepare for battle, and through this body of work, I hope to expand upon the notion of what "being tough" really means.

What medium(s) were used if I may ask?  I love the texture.  It's a very bold piece indeed.  I use acrylics and watercolors mostly, but I find my acrylic pieces don't turn out how I envision them.  I am just in love with this piece!  Very well done!

Thank you so much! I've been using oil paint for this series. I like the way they layer and the texture you get when painting thick.

Well it's absolutely gorgeous! I would love to be able to create something so raw looking and free.  I love paintings where the brush strokes are visible but it doesn't take anything at all away from the piece.  Whenever I try to create something like this, it never turns out quite right.  Keep up the good work, and I can't wait to see what else you create!
